Pressure Ulcers
The Tissue Viability Nurses (TVN’s) work to reduce pressure ulcers in our hospitals. We review all pressure ulcers and advise on the care required to encourage them to heal. Hospital acquired pressure ulcers are reviewed and investigated by the Tissue Viability Team upon referral.
Chronic complex wounds
The TVN team assess and plan care for patients admitted with chronic complex wounds. Ward staff are educated and informed how to manage these wounds they are advised to refer back to the service if prescribed care requires review.
We use a range of specialist dressings and techniques to assist the patient to heal, this includes; compression bandaging, Topical negative pressure, larvae therapy and sharp debridement.
The tissue viability service is Nurse led and will involve the wider multi-disciplinary team when required this includes specialist doctors, podiatrists and our Allied Health Professional colleagues.
How can I get referred?
Referrals come through to the service via the nursing staff on the ward looking after you. If you feel your wound needs a TVN referral please ask your nursing staff to refer you to our service.
