Our team consists of fourteen consultants and one associate specialist, supported by specialist health visitors, children’s specialist nurses and psychologists. We work closely with or colleagues in acute paediatrics, speech and language, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
We are based in two child development centres, one at Danestrete and one at QEII but we cover a large geographical area and have outpatient clinics at Lister Hospital, QEII Hospital and Hertford County Hospital.
We have expertise in the diagnosis and management of
- Developmental disorders and neurodisability
- Down’s syndrome and similar conditions
- Autism Spectrum disorder – diagnosis only
- Dyspraxia – with an accompanying referral from OT
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder – diagnosis and management
- Epilepsy
- Feeding Clinics
We participate in “Team around the child” meetings for children with complex needs.
We have close links with education and in addition to our strategic role; we provide medical advice to the Local Education Authority.
We hold clinics in each of the SLD schools within our geographical area.
We carry out Child Looked After Assessments and provide advice to the adoption and fostering panels.
We do not accept referrals for:-
- Dyslexia
- Behavioural management
- Enuresis
- Anxiety
- Anger management
