“Thank you” is the message from staff across East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust after Lister Hospital in Stevenage was announced as the winner of the Judges’ Special Award at the Pride of Stevenage Awards 2020 at the weekend.
The annual event, organised by Stevenage Borough Council, focused on the town’s response to the coronavirus pandemic – with changes to the award categories to reflect this.
Eight winners were announced on Saturday evening during a virtual ceremony broadcast online, with the Lister the last winner to be revealed by Councillor Sharon Taylor.
The leader of Stevenage Borough Council said: “The Judges’ Special Award is to honour long and exceptional service, work and dedication during what can only be described as an extraordinarily tough and demanding 2020.
“I am delighted to present it this year to the Lister Hospital. A wonderful organisation who witness so much and work so hard to support people and their families, who were experiencing coronavirus and other health issues. They carried on with their work, with grace and selflessness.”
In a film shared during the virtual ceremony, Nick Carver, chief executive of East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust which runs the Lister, said: “The last six months have been amongst the most challenging that any of us have experienced, but we’ve got through it because of the resilience of our people, the fantastic support from partner organisations and because of the humbling level of encouragement from the public – so thank you very, very much.”
And, after being presented with the award on behalf of her colleagues, medicines management pharmacy assistant Bethany Price said: “Thank you Pride of Stevenage for recognising us, and thank you so much for this award.”
